Art is an integral part of my life, of my being. Without it I am not whole. To be complete I must create. It is my form of communication. This has been so for as long as I can remember. Art cannot exist in a vacuum, or it is not truly art. It must be shared. I create my art to share it. Throughout my life I have been constantly experimenting with different art forms, exploring the interplay of color, texture and pattern. My training as an architect helps me to find and express the patterns in the world around me. I am inspired by both nature and the built environment. Most of my work in the past decade has focused on exploring shape, texture and the play of light on the small scale, through paper arts and beadwork. No piece is ever duplicated. I am always pushing myself to try a different color combination or variation on a pattern. I most enjoy creating pieces with textue and dimension. Many of my pieces were created as a way to express my interaction with nature – a walk through an autumn forest, or along a stormy beach, and sprang to my life as a way to put my feelings into three dimensions.
