When I paint I'm in another
dimension. It's a surrealistic,
timeless moment that can last for
hours. I'm actually in the
environment I'm creating and I
control it all. I'm composing the
landscape-- the mood, the rhythm,
the balance,the uniformity, the
texture. I control the elements of
the created scene, limited only to
my imagination. I can put in a
tree, a house, a path wherever I
want, and there I am in my
created surroundings, my space.
I paint realistically. Each wave is
similar as each wave is different.
I find weathered pieces of wood--
sometimes weathered by the
same waves-- and they still have
life. They have character and
personality. They have the
character of an old, wrinkled face
you know has had an interesting
life. You can sense the history and
life of these discarded boards,
which I rescue to renew. Then the
board goes into a home and is
protected. I always paint my
environment in the middle of the
board, leaving the wood to frame
my creation.
